For those who think Democracy should be
a collaborative experience.

Quote from Jon Stewart about Obama
“For the first time since I can remember, and this includes the Clintons, somebody is speaking in a manner that matches my sensory perception.”
I agree. I may not agree with all he says, but I don’t get the idea that he’s telling me down is up.

I agree with Stewart’s comment too.
Most of us will remember today. We either had our eyes glued to a tv or our ears to a radio while Mr. Obama became President Obama. And for many, we realize that we did indeed hear some of the most down-to-earth, sensible stuff we have in decades.
Obama speaks of “responsibility”, of “hope”, of “work”. He expects us to realize our duty, as citizens, to engage in this democracy, in order to make it a “more perfect union”.
Isn’t this EXACTLY what America is supposed to be about? America is made up of citizens from all types of backgrounds and circumstances. Our country is designed so that we all may have the opportunity to do our best – to pitch in, to build a better village for ourselves, for our neighbors, for our children, for our world.
We may have forgotten that and some of our younger ones may never have had it asked of them to give back. Our president, Barack Hussein Obama, has finally asked us to stand up, speak up, and join up – as a United States.
I do indeed feel that Obama’s speech matches my perception. He doesn’t sugar-coat, he doesn’t pretend, he doesn’t tell us to go shopping, he doesn’t tell us to live in fear. He doesn’t absolve us of our responsibility as citizens. He doesn’t give us a hot cup of milk and tell us that all will be well in the morning.
Obama asks us to prepare to work for our fine, imperfect, ever-evolving democracy. I say – let’s roll up our sleeves and prepare to work! My sensory perception feels right on target with what my president is saying, finally.
